Saco River Dyehouse is a yarn dyeing plant operating in a historic mill building in Biddeford, Maine. Focused principally on skein dyeing, this is a labor-intensive, hands-on process requiring careful handling of the yarn, precise measurement of dyes, and calibration of temperature and water flow to preserve the natural loft and soft hand of the yarn. We provide color matching, as well as skeining, coning, balling, twisting and lableling services. Although the majority of our dyeing is in large quantities, we welcome the opportunity to work with artisans and designers in small, custom batches as well.

Saco River Dyehouse also owns, dyes and distributes Paternayan Persian yarn, a line of 3 ply wool yarn that has served the rug and needle-arts community for almost 100 years.  After carefully re-establishing the formula for the yarn composition consistent with the original quality, we anticipating having a full range of the beautiful Paternayan colors by the end of 2013.  Colors currently in stock can be viewed under the Paternayan tab.  In addition to Paternayan, the Dyehouse is also developing a line of yarns to be sold under the label – The Dyehouse Farm Yarns emphasizing domestic alpaca and alpaca blends.
